The Reawakening is the bestselling sequel to Primo Levi's award winning book Survival in Auschwitz. In this novel Levi describes his journey back home to Italy after being released from the concentration camp. The journey seems to be randomized at best, but at this point Levi and the others settled for any transportation they could find to try and reestablish connections with their loved ones.
Levi describes in detail the images that he had seen along his way back, such as the other camps and bombed cities. He also describes his encounters with other refugees and, especially Russian soldiers that he met in his long journey home. Irving Howe, a Jewish American literary, and social critic stated that this sequel by Primo Levi was "a remarkable feat of literary craft." |
